Turnout Construction. Here is the frog mounted on the ties. The frog was scratch built. It is a 3 piece lamination: 1/16" aluminum base, 1/4" aluminum spacer and a 1/2" steel point, all screwed together. The spacer block positions the closure rails at the right distance from the steel frog point. Six of these were made. |
| Turnout Construction. Here is the end of the closure rail where the point starts. The point end of the turnout is to the right. The points ride on aluminum closure rail plates. |

Turnout Construction. Here is my first completed scratch built turnout. The darker ties are wood ties treated with used motor oil (they are soaked overnight). The other ties are Trex. The long rails mount to ties from the track panel the turnout will replace. The long ties for the switch stand have not been installed yet. |
| Turnout Construction. Here is a view of the frog. It has been machined on top to match the 5/8" height of the rails. The aluminum base plate has been trimmed off. |

Turnout Construction. Here is a view of the points. They are 15" long. The two ties either side of the throw bar will be replaced with much longer ones for the switch stand. The closure rail plates, points, hinges, tie bar and throw bar were all scratch built. |
